The Story

Grzegorz cut the portrait himself, working through the shell's natural layers so the face rises pale against a darker ground. The old cameo cutter's discipline, applied to a vessel rather than a brooch.

About This Work

The portrait is cut by the artist directly through the natural layers of the material, in the cameo tradition, then set into a vessel body rather than a brooch. Silver collar and suspension work frame the carved face.
